Alert for Embrace Watch
The Alert App works in tandem with the Embrace smartband to automatically notify your selected caregivers via SMS and phone call when unusual patterns—potentially associated with a convulsive seizure—are detected.
To use the Alert App, a dedicated smartphone with Bluetooth connectivity is required, along with an active subscription plan. Please note that the app is designed exclusively for use with the Embrace smartband by Empatica. Learn more at www.empatica.com/store.
Alert Features
The Alert App offers the following key functionalities:
• Automatically places calls and sends SMS alerts to caregivers upon detection of a possible convulsive seizure.
• Shares your GPS location with caregivers when this feature is enabled.
With the Alert App, you can also:
• Track and review the frequency of seizures over time.
• Enable or disable specific caregivers based on time periods (e.g., teachers only during school hours).
• Turn off lights and vibration on the Embrace when not needed.
• Check the status of your Embrace device, including battery and memory levels.
• Receive notifications about app updates and new features.
• Cancel any alerts triggered by events that do not require assistance.
Embrace in the Press
Embrace has garnered attention for its innovative approach to seizure detection and alerting. As noted by MIT Technology Review, it "makes it easier for people with epilepsy to detect seizures and let others know when they need help." Time magazine also highlighted that Embrace "can do something most watches don’t: send out an epilepsy alert."
Regulatory Information
In the EU, the Embrace smartband is classified as a Class IIa medical device under Directive 93/42/EEC, intended for patients with epilepsy or at risk of epilepsy.
In the USA, Embrace is the first wrist-worn wearable cleared by the FDA for use in neurology. It is available by prescription only and is designed as an adjunct tool for seizure monitoring in adults during rest, whether at home or in healthcare facilities.
