OSS Messenger: Secure Communication for Saarland Schools
OSS Messenger is a secure mobile communication module designed for teachers, students, and parents at all primary and special schools in Saarland. Integrated into the state-owned educational cloud—Online School Saarland—it serves as an essential tool to enhance digital interaction within the educational community.
The platform supports a variety of functions, including direct messages, group and voice messaging, school-wide announcements, video conferences, an integrated translation feature, and a survey tool. To use OSS Messenger, schools must first be registered by the school administration.
For Parents: Receive important school updates, such as parent letters, directly on your mobile device. Acknowledge messages with a single click, participate in surveys, and engage in school activities like parent-teacher meeting planning. The app also supports apologies, short text messages, and voice messages, making communication with teachers more convenient. The built-in translation feature helps overcome language barriers. Families with children across multiple schools can easily switch between school profiles within the app.
For Teachers: Communicate in compliance with GDPR regulations. Protect your privacy—OSS Messenger works without sharing personal phone numbers. Teachers can control conversations by switching between one-way (only teacher can write) and open conversation modes. Read receipts provide real-time status updates on sent messages. Users can also set custom availability hours for specific days or times.
For School Administrations: Send messages to the entire school community instantly or schedule them for later delivery. Keep track of message status through read confirmations. Administrators can also use the web app to draft longer messages on a computer. The integrated video conferencing feature allows spontaneous parent-teacher meetings from any location.
