App Introduction
EXFO's EX Series products, when used with an Android smart device, serve as unique Ethernet, PON, and Wi-Fi testers designed to evaluate the Quality of Experience (QoE) for both Fiber to the Home (FTTH) and business customers. Available in two models—the compact EX1 and the more powerful EX10—these tools help communication service providers and MSOs validate full line rate services through a single mobile application.
The EX1 supports Ethernet, Wi-Fi (1-5), GPON, and XGS-PON interfaces, enabling validation of throughput (download/upload) and latency using the industry-leading Speedtest® by Ookla® algorithm, ensuring repeatable and reliable results every time. The EX10 builds on this with support for higher Ethernet interface rates of up to 10G, optical interfaces at 1G and 10G, and Wi-Fi 6/6E (IEEE 802.11ax), in addition to enhanced XGS-PON capabilities.
These features make the EX Series ideal for generating comprehensive service "birth certificates" during the provisioning phase. Field technicians can also perform Wi-Fi channel map analysis to determine optimal access point placement at customer locations. For business customers, service providers can qualify optical connections using commonly deployed SFP/SFP+ transceivers.
A standout feature is the PON qualification capability, which elevates troubleshooting with support for ONT/ONU link validation, including ONU-ID, PON-ID, ODN Class, RX Optical Power, Transmit Optical Level (TOL), and ODN Loss measurements.
The EX Series testers do not require a built-in screen; instead, all operations are managed via an intuitive Android application. Technicians can handle connections, setup, report generation, and cloud-based firmware updates seamlessly through the app. Test reports can be combined to provide customers with detailed, all-in-one birth certificates.
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology enables untethered testing, allowing technicians to connect directly to smartphones or tablets and operate up to 100 feet away from the EX tester. This flexibility is especially useful in challenging environments. Additionally, BLE helps extend battery life, enabling more testing throughout a technician's workday.
*Note: All PON testing requires an EXFO Managed PON ONT stick. For more details, please contact your EXFO representative.
