GPS Waypoints: Multi-Purpose Mapping and Surveying Tool
GPS Waypoints is a versatile mapping and surveying application designed for both professional and personal use. It supports a wide range of land-based surveying activities, such as agriculture, forest management, infrastructure maintenance, urban planning, real estate, and emergency mapping. For outdoor enthusiasts, it’s also ideal for hiking, running, walking, traveling, and geocaching.
The app allows users to collect Points (e.g., points of interest) and Paths (sequences of points) with accuracy information. Points can be tagged, annotated with photos, and converted into human-readable addresses via reverse geocoding. Paths can be created manually or automatically and used to measure distances or form polygons for calculating areas and perimeters. All data can be exported to KML, GPX, or CSV formats for further processing with external geospatial tools.
GPS Waypoints utilizes the internal GPS receiver of your mobile device (typically with >3m accuracy) and supports external Bluetooth GNSS receivers (e.g., RTK receivers with centimeter-level precision) for enhanced accuracy. Compatible external receivers include Bad Elf GNSS Surveyor, Garmin Glo, Navilock BT-821G, Qstarz BT-Q818XT, Trimple R1, and ublox F9P.
Key features include: - Acquiring current position with accuracy and navigation details. - Displaying active and visible satellites (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, etc.). - Importing points via coordinates or address search (geocoding). - Creating and managing survey themes with custom tags. - Measuring directions and distances using a magnetic or GPS compass. - Exporting and sharing data via KML, GPX, or cloud services like Dropbox and Google Drive.
The Premium subscription offers advanced capabilities such as data backup and restore, CSV and KMZ exports, batch import from CSV/GPX files, sorting/filtering options, and satellite signal analysis with interference detection.
An additional Maps feature provides visualization of Points, Paths, and Polygons on Open Street Maps.
