Resistor Scanner (Beta) – Your Handy Electronics Companion
Welcome to Resistor Scanner, a tool designed to make identifying and calculating resistor values quick and intuitive. Whether you're an electronics hobbyist, student, or professional, this app offers two key features: a Resistor Calculator and a Scanner for real-time resistor recognition.
Resistor Calculator Section
Easily perform two-way conversions between resistor values and color bands. Select band colors on the grid to calculate the resistance, or type a value in ohms to instantly see the corresponding color bands. The app supports both 4-band and 5-band resistors—simply tap on the resistor graphic to switch between the two modes.
Scanning Section
Use your device's camera to scan resistors in real-time. Currently, the scanner supports 4-band resistors placed on a clear white background. For best results, position a single resistor horizontally inside the blue square with the tolerance band on the right. Use the zoom bar to maximize the resistor's size, as a larger image improves color detection accuracy.
Tips for Optimal Scanning
Auto-focus is enabled by default. If the image is blurry, adjust the distance and use zoom. Lighting is crucial—ensure white, ample light without shadows for the camera to detect colors accurately. Avoid colored lighting, and consider using the flashlight feature in low-light conditions.
Accuracy Considerations
The app's performance depends on factors like camera resolution, lighting, background, positioning, focus, and white balance. While the app handles many variables, user attention to placement and lighting will yield the best results. Note that colors like white and gray may be challenging to detect, but improvements are planned for future updates.
