OctoApp: Bringing 3D Printing to the Palm of Your Hand
I never imagined I’d monitor a 3D print from my wristwatch. But here we are—thanks to OctoApp, my entire print workflow now fits in my pocket (and occasionally on my wrist). This app wasn’t built as an afterthought to OctoPrint. It feels like a native, well-designed extension of everything I already loved about printing—only faster, clearer, and mobile-first.
Three Workspaces, Zero Confusion
One thing I instantly appreciated about OctoApp was the way it broke the process into three clean sections: Connect, Prepare, and Print. The app doesn’t throw everything at you at once. It waits until your printer is live before guiding you to the next step. That flow makes everything less overwhelming—especially on a phone screen.
All the Controls You Actually Use
This isn’t a stripped-down version of OctoPrint. OctoApp gives me full terminal access, flow and feed rate control, webcam streaming, Gcode previews, fan tuning—you name it. I even switched filaments mid-print using just my phone while making coffee in another room. It feels almost absurd how much power is packed into such a clean UI.
Plugin Paradise for the Print-Obsessed
If you’ve ever added plugins like ArcWelder or SpoolManager to OctoPrint, OctoApp doesn’t leave you hanging. It supports them. Same goes for power plugins, lighting control, PrintTimeGenius, even OctoEverywhere and The Spaghetti Detective. This app plays nice with all the tools I rely on—and even better, it auto-switches connections when I go remote.
Wear OS, Real Notifications, Real Time
Yes, OctoApp works on Wear OS. I get temperature updates, print status alerts, and completion notifications straight to my wrist. No delay, no fluff. It’s wild how helpful that is when I’m working in another room and just need a glance to know everything’s running fine. Combine that with regular updates and solid security support, and this thing’s earned a permanent home on my home screen.
