BBB Interpretation Service: Breaking Language Barriers in Korea
BBB Korea is a non-profit organization supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, dedicated to overcoming language and cultural barriers through interpretation services. With the assistance of 4,000 intellectual volunteers, BBB offers interpretation in 18 different languages, enabling smoother communication for foreigners in Korea.
The service operates via mobile phone, allowing users to call BBB at any time and from anywhere to get connected directly with a volunteer interpreter. This public service is available 24/7 at no extra cost beyond standard call charges.
For added convenience, the BBB application simplifies the process. Instead of dialing 1588-5644 and navigating through ARS announcements, users can select their preferred language in the app to connect instantly with a volunteer. The app also remembers the language used previously, so repeat users can access interpretation in the same language without reopening the application. Beyond interpretation, the app provides information about BBB’s knowledge-sharing activities and its role as a Language/Culture NGO.
Through both online and offline campaigns, BBB encourages cultural exchange and public participation, making knowledge-sharing accessible to people worldwide.
